“The trips you never made, you never will”, the quote of this great commercial tells a big story…

I was very surprised when I saw this commercial because it has a different prospective to a travel. Most American travel commercials have similar descriptions, they introduce the best places, sightseeings, food, hotels and beautiful women in order to attract the tourists. However, Expedia “Paris” Travel Commercial has a story to share. In addition to a story, it views the best places and attractions of Paris as a background stage.

The story is very touching. An old lady who travels to Paris imagines the possible of  impossible. She dreams to her adolescence and tells us a happy story of her trip to Paris. She shares the best moments of her life, how she met her life man in a coffee shop, how they dated by visiting each others countries in four years, how they got married, and had children and grandchildren. Despite to this happy story, the plot changes unexpectedly at the end. It becomes clear that the happy monologue of a lady was just an imagination. Her sad face explains that she regrets for her missed opportunities. It was a great loss for her  when she refused to come to that city, to that coffee shop. She sadly mentions that she lost her happiness and never met her dream man because she canceled her trip to Paris…

  1. I have mixed feelings about this ad. It’s nicely shot and the woman is appealing but it seems to convey that if a woman doesn’t meet a man she spends her life with then she loses her chance at happiness. That seems like an old view of the world. Also someone the age of that woman just wouldn’t have dated someone for 4 years meeting in cities around the world – that wouldn’t have been possible socially or economically for almost anyone at that time (guessing it would have been about 50 years ago). I like the originality but just not the woman without man equals missing out on a good life message!

  2. Hi Kay, thanks for sharing your opinion about the ad. I think the main idea of this commercial is to give the message not to lose their life opportunities that they might regret years later.
In this commercial the woman walks around the city, observes people and imagines herself when she sees happy people. Like a lady walking with a stroller makes her dream that she had several children by marriage to a man she met on a travel.
We all have dreams of happiness regardless of our age 🙂
